Medical Massage therapy is a treatment that utilizes a variety of Advanced Manual Therapy techniques. They include, but are not limited to: Deep Tissue Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Stretching, Muscle Energy, Neuromuscular Therapy, Myofascial Release, Lymphatic Drainage, Structural Integration and cupping therapy.
Medical massage is suitable for those who are in pain, have tension or need to increase flexibility and performance. Medical Massage/Manual Therapy is the treatment that some insurance providers will cover. A prescription is required in order for an insurance company to cover medical massage.
If you know that your carrier does not cover medical massage, you might be able to use your Health Savings Account (HSA) to pay for your massage therapy sessions.
Medical Massage involves three primary elements:
- Assessing clients condition and needs
- Forming a treatment plan to help heal the source of pain
- Informing the client about self care activities that will extend the results of the therapy.
